Hello, my name is Señora Rivera.
I am from Colombia and finished my bachelors degree in Physical Education there. I was a swimming teacher and coach for 6 years and played soccer during my college years in my beautiful country.
I came to the US in 1999 and started my career as Spanish Teacher at Ewing High School. In 2005, my husband and I welcomed our beautiful daughter and realized that we needed to be close to home, I came to Northern after teaching 5 years at Ewing High School and moving to Columbus.
While working at Northern, in 2008 we were so happy to welcome our second daughter and received my MAT in Spanish from Rutgers University. Last year, I completed another 30 credits for Marygrove College emphasizing the importance of the changes and challenges teenagers have everyday.
I currently teach Spanish I and Spanish III in the High School but I have taught Spanish II and Spanish for Native Speakers. I love teaching an elective because I have the opportunity to know a lot of the students within the entire school population. I am so thankful for the energy and positive environment my students bring to my classes. I am filled with their enthusiasm and wiliness to learn about other cultures and grow together in this global setting.
I believe that anyone can learn another language, using culture, music, dance , technology, showing my students the importance to be good citizens of the world by trying to understand the diversity and richness of everyone.
I have been working at Northern since 2006. I love sponsoring the Latin Dance competition for Blue and grey Night, the Spanish Honor Society ceremony and the Scholar’s awards.
At home, I enjoy spending time with my husband, 2 daughters and my beautiful two schnauzers Lola and Luna. We enjoy reading, hiking and riding our bikes. We look forward every summer to visit our family in Colombia and enjoy our avocado farm there. I am an email away, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have a question or concern.
Thank you for your interest in getting to know me.
