My name is Olivia Monillas. I graduated from Rider University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and Secondary Education. Later on during my teaching career, I earned my Masters in Education through Gratz College.
I began teaching at Northern in 2015, however, I’m not new to teaching. My first real job was abroad in Amiens, France as an American assistant, teaching English to native French speaking high school students, where I spent seven months. Afterwards, I took a part-time position back in the United States teaching French at a local middle school, before returning back to Amiens for one more year. Previously, just before Northern, I taught French for nine years at a middle school in North Jersey.
Currently, I am the district French teacher; I go from the high school where I teach French I to the middle school to teach both 7th and 8th Grade French. In my classes, students are engaged constantly practicing the target language with authentic materials ,using the technology and interacting with their peers. I try to give my students real world applications for using the language skills they are acquiring so it gives them a desire to learn.
I enjoy going to the movies, bike riding, and going to the beach. I also am passionate about traveling abroad to explore new places.
